Egypt
Egypt, a predominantly arid country, is located in the Northeast corner of the African continent by the Mediterranean Sea. It is bordered to the Northeast by Palestine and Israel, the Red Sea to the East, Sudan to the South and Libya to the West. There are four distinct geographic regions in Egypt.These are the Sinai Peninsula, the Western Desert, the Eastern Desert, and the Nile Valley.
Egypt is one of the oldest countries in the world known for its rich history, ancient civilization, iconic landmarks such as the Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx, the Nile River, Luxor’s ancient monuments, the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, temples, vibrant cuisine, and Red Sea resorts. The Great Pyramid of Giza, which is about 4,000 years old, is the only remaining wonder of the ancient world.
Egypt is home to about 109.3 million inhabitants. The country’s official language is Arabic, although most road signs can be found written in both English and Arabic.
Cairo – City of a Thousand Minarets
Cairo city is the largest city in the Arab World and the Middle East. This capital city is situated in Northern Egypt, called Lower Egypt. It is 120 km west of the Gulf of Suez and the Suez Canal and 165 km south of the Mediterranean Sea. The name ‘Cairo’ can be interpreted as the ‘one who won’. The locals refer to Cairo as Umm al Dunya, which means ‘Mother of the world’. The tallest structure built by human hand – the Great Pyramid of Giza with a height of 146.7 meters (481 ft.) is situated in Cairo. Cairo has only two main seasons across the year – roughly eight months of summer and four months of winter. Cairo offers one of the best shopping experiences, with Khan el-Khalili Bazaar in the city being one of the best locations to shop in the world.
